Bagad de Vannes : A musical identity

Created in 1954 and performing in the highest grade (1st) since 1969, Bagad Vannes is characterized by a desire to change the plan of Brittany’s style of music. Recently, his style has worn by an exceptional youth, which offers the audience a mix with tradition and modernity. 4 groupes of musical instruments are part of the band : Percussions, snare-drums, bagpipes, bombards.

Bagad de Vannes Takes part to two competitions a year : the first during spring season (in Brest), and the other in summer during the Interceltic festival in Lorient. Theses competitions are organized by the organism called "Bodadeg ar Sonerion” (B.A.S.). Bagad de Vannes also regularly performs throughout France.

It has also been a great pleasure for the "blue Vests" (as they are also called) to share experiences with artists such as Carlos Nunez, Japanese drummers (as part of a report aired on Channel One television Japanese) or Hugues Auffray.

Bagad de Vannes's music has also been inspired by different musical experiments : bombard-bands, pipe-band, bagpipe quartet, drums band... Composers of the bombard band arrange traditional tunes but are also inspired by musics such as bossa, tango ... A pipe-band has been newly created, and plans to perform during the World Championship in Glasgow in 2012 !

The little bagad, "BAGADIG” involve students of our music school. They sometime joined the bagad during performances, espacially musical processions. Every year, he is part of 5th grade contest. Most of members of Bagad de Vannes have been trained in the bagadig !

Our organization definitaly considers the training of its members as a priority. It has different objectives : awakening and improving the youngest in sociability, ensuring the sustainability of the association.


"Bagad de Vannes is friendliness, vitality and musical exchanges between generations"... Or "What I love in the bagad is the mix of generation, and the way we seriously work !", as told by our youngest members, during recent feedback.
